We’re thrilled to share an important update at Ottawa Public Library! Urban Indigenous communities in the Gatineau region and the Anishinabe Algonquin communities of Kitigan Zibi and Pikwakangan  now have free access to OPL memberships through a simple self-declaration process.

This expansion of our membership reflects our commitment to Truth and Reconciliation, and to building respectful, lasting relationships with Indigenous communities.

We know that Indigenous people often move between communities, cities, and provinces. By removing jurisdictional barriers and using a self-declaration method, we’re making it easier for you to use the library.

What does your OPL membership give you?

  • Books, movies, audiobooks, and more — online and in-person
  • Free programs for kids, teens, adults, and Elders
  • Access to Indigenous-focused collections and services
  • A welcoming space where you and your community are seen and valued

This is part of our larger journey that includes Indigenous-led services at ādisōke, and an ongoing commitment to reflect the voices and needs of First Nations, Inuit, and Métis peoples.
