This April, Ottawa Public Library invites you to join One eRead/Un Livrel Canada, Canada’s largest digital book club. This year’s month-long, bilingual initiative, presented by the Canadian Urban Libraries Council (CULC), is featuring What I Know About You by Eric Chacour. This debut novel follows Tarek on a journey from Cairo to Montreal, tracing a life shaped by family, love and the choices that define us.

From April 1 to 30, OPL’s clients can dive into this epic story for free in French and English, available as eBook and eAudio formats. What I Know About You has captivated readers nationwide. Finalist on Canada Reads, the book was recognized with major awards, including the Prix Femina, and shortlisted for the Giller Prize and the Dublin International Literary Award.

As more readers turn to e‑books, public libraries continue to face challenges to offer a wide range of eBooks. High costs and strict licensing rules often limit access. National initiatives like One eRead help readers discover new books and support both authors and publishers.

One eRead is more than just reading. It’s a chance to connect with fellow readers, discover new authors, and celebrate the stories that bring us together. Using your OPL card, you can access the English eBook and eAudio editions through OverDrive/Libby and CloudLibrary. The French eBook is available on Cantook, and the French eAudio is offered as a special production by Radio-Canada’s Ohdio.

Events

To close out the month, join two national livestreamed author events—one in English and one in French. The link to attend via YouTube is available through OPL’s website.
