March is Francophonie Month, an opportunity to celebrate and honor the French-speaking cultural heritage of Canada and beyond. The French language, its diversity, and the richness it brings are an integral part of Canada’s and Ottawa’s historical heritage. At Ottawa Public Library, we offer a collection of books, databases, and a variety of programs and activities in French.
This month, Francophones and Francophiles in Ottawa are invited to:
Borrow books in French. Did you know that OPL has more than 14,000 books in French? Whether French is your native language or you’re learning it, feel free to browse our collection.
Expand your French vocabulary. Take advantage of our many databases, such as ToutApprendre, Généalogie Québec, and Cantook, to join workshops, take courses, and deepen your language skills.
Join French-language programs. In addition to 12 exclusively French programs for children during March break, you can attend the following events:
- Film – Trécarré: Exploring the Saint Mary’s Bay Sound
- Croisée des mots: A Literary Discussion with Marine Sibileau and Philippe Godoc
- NFB Screening – Histoires de Familles
- Cohabiter
Speak, write, and converse in French. Visit your local branch to join a book club or a writing club and practice your oral and written French communication.
Let’s celebrate the richness of Francophonie together!
