Librarian Véro Dupuis could not put down Simon Paré-Poupart’s hard-hitting book Ordures ! Journal d’un vidangeur, reading it cover to cover in a single sitting.
She took an immediate liking to both the author’s voice and the book’s highly unconventional subject. She was drawn right in as every page and every anecdote brought her a little bit closer to the grit and the beauty of garbage collection.
"No one writes novels about garbage collectors, says Paré-Poupart. Or at least no one did. Thanks to him, we now have a first-hand account from one of the thousands of men who run tirelessly behind a foul-smelling truck day in and day out. Drawing on his insights into the sanitation world’s internal pecking order, vivid sketches of his weathered colleagues and reflections on the importance of the work they do, Simon Paré-Poupart speaks with eloquence and conviction about what keeps him coming back to his run day after day", Véro said.
Simon Paré-Poupart will be with us at the St-Laurent branch at 7 pm on Wednesday, May 27. He will be joined by host Hugues Beaudoin-Dumouchel to talk about his experience and why, after twenty years collecting waste in the Communauté métropolitaine de Montréal, he decided to write this striking first essay, published in 2024 by Lux Éditeur.
The one-hour event will be followed by a question-and-answer period and a book-signing session. Le coin du livre bookstore will also be there selling copies of the book.
Curiosity, surprise and a fresh perspective await at this literary event you’re not going to want to miss. Register today!
