There’s a certain magic in flipping through the pages of a book or scrolling through an eBook, and letting yourself be transported into new worlds, both real and imagined. This magic, this joy of reading, is something we, at Ottawa Public Library (OPL), celebrate and share daily.
October is Library Month and OPL’s theme this year is Joy of Reading – a reminder that reading is a shared experience that can connect us all. Whether you're a child experiencing the excitement of stories for the first time, a teenager exploring new genres, a life-long learner or confirmed bookworm who seeks an endless supply of stories and reading material, the Library is where the joy of reading is available to everyone.
We want to hear about how reading has perhaps brought joy to your life. We want to share and to celebrate that joy of reading with everyone in Ottawa this Library Month. Follow OPL on social media and engage with us - online or in person.
I loved to read as a child and I’ll never forget my mother reading The Little Prince to me in its original French, and how I read, re-read, and eventually memorized poems by A.A. Milne. Reading to my young children, that joy expanded with their delight in such books as Alligator Pie, and our mutual love for the clay illustrations of The Subway Mouse. Reading is a mainstay of my life and work. One of my greatest pleasures is to sit down with a book and get absorbed into the world and ideas crafted by a talented writer.
Look no further than OPL if you would like a reading recommendation to suit you. OPL’s rich collection of reading material in multiple genres and formats — physical and digital —has something to please readers of all ages and interests.
Be sure to visit OPL this Library Month in person and online. Browse our collection or reach out to our employees who can provide advice to enhance your reading journey.
