    Dictionary of Canadian Biography

    Use the Dictionary of Canadian Biography Online to review the lives and achievements of individuals who played important roles in the formation of Canada.  This major research and publishing project was launched by the University of Toronto and the Université Laval in 1959, and currently covers persons who died between the years 1000 and 1930, or whose last known date of significant activity falls within these years.

Organized into targeted learning centers, this all-in-one resource supports those looking to improve core academic skills, pass English proficiency tests or the Test of English for International Communication (TOEIC), prepare for college, join the military or RCMP Police Aptitude Test (RPAT), obtain occupational certification, find a job, change careers, become a Canadian citizen, and much more. Learning centers contain practice tests, interactive tutorials, e-books, articles and flashcards.

    LinkedIn Learning for Library

    LinkedIn Learning for Library is an upgrade to the previous Lynda Library product, providing continued lifelong learning opportunities for all of our Clients.

    Over 16,000 video tutorial courses led by experts in Business, Creative, and Technology. Some tutorials are available in English, French, German, Japanese, Mandarin, Portuguese, and Spanish.

    Customers will now have access to the following:

    1. Engaging content for every customer, with over 16,000 courses in 7 different languages
    2. A simple, time-saving login flow for customers that only requires a library card number and PIN, without the need for a LinkedIn profile
    3. An updated, easy-to-use, intuitive interface
    4. Previous course history from Lynda.com
    • From March 31st, 2022, any clients who have not yet logged into LinkedIn Learning for Library will not have their Lynda history migrated over.
    • The LinkedIn Learning mobile application is now available for library clients. After downloading it from the app store, They will select Sign in with their library card to log in. 
      Enter the "library ID" as "ottawa" after www.linkedin.com/learning-login/go/ and then click Continue and enter the library card # and PIN
    • For course completions, the clients will see the course completions in their history and get a certificate, however, their  Personal Identifier Information (PII) will not appear on the certificate. i.e. clients will not get a certificate in their name,
    • The library version of LinkedIn Learning can’t connect with the client's personal LinkedIn account.

    Teen Book Cloud (TumbleBookCloud)

    A collection of Graphic Novels, eBooks, classic literature, National Geographic videos, educator resources and audiobooks, perfect for middle school and high school students. It features adjustable online text and complete audio narration. Sentences are highlighted as they are being read and the pages turn automatically. These read along books are great for reluctant readers and also help ESL students develop language skills.All of our students and customers will have unlimited access to this fantastic collection.

    TumbleBookCloud Jr is no longer active. Any k-6 titles from this resource are available on TumbleBook Library. There were some titles in TumbleBookCloud Jr. (TBC JR) that were created to the upper middle schoolers, those are available on Teen Book Cloud.

    Please note there are a total of 56,000 redemptions available for OPL clients. Each redemption provides 24-hour access to the resource.

    TumbleBook Library

    Collection of online books created by adding animation, sound, music and narration to existing picture books from major children's book publishers and designed to develop a love of reading in children.  The books can be read by parents to their children or read by a child.  Games, quizzes and other activities are included to help develop reading skills.  TumbleBookLibrary can be used in English, French and Spanish.

    TVO Learn resources are created or curated by Ontario Certified Teachers and go through equity and inclusion reviews by curriculum and subject-matter specialists. All content aligns with the K-12 Ontario curriculum. Learning materials are designed in compliance with the Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act. TVO Learn is approved by the Ontario Ministry of Education.

    Free 1:1 online math tutoring with Ontario Certified Teachers is available for Ontario students in Grade 4-12.

     

    Students can use TVO Learn Mathify for homework help in math, preparing for math tests, clarifying math concepts, and more.

     

    TVO Learn Mathify is brought to you by TVO Media Education Group, with funding from the Ontario Ministry of Education.

     

    Note: Students need to use their Ontario Education Number (OEN) to register for their free account.
