Do you love gardening and growing your own food? Do you ever grow more than you can keep up with? If so, we have a great way that you can help out your community this summer! Ottawa Public Library will be hosting Food Sharing Stands at Beaverbrook, Carp, and Hazeldean branches from early July until October 1. Anyone in the community is welcome to donate their own home-grown produce during opening hours – and anyone is welcome to take food as well. Donations can include hearty vegetables like cucumbers, garlic, cabbage, and squash, leafy greens, fresh or dried herbs, berries… the list goes on! Please brush dirt off any produce, but don’t wash them to make them last longer. You can also donate canned goods and dried goods (ex. rice, pasta, lentils).
Help us build community, reduce food waste, and combat food insecurity all at the same time! You can also visit the Beaverbrook, Carp, and Hazeldean in June to learn more about food insecurity through an interactive art installation presented by the Bruyère Health Research Institute.
This initiative is presented in partnership with the Ottawa Valley Food Security Project.
