Between June and August, the Cumberland branch will be hosting the Friends of Petrie Island turtle egg incubator. It’s the summer of turtles.
Throughout the summer you can watch the turtles hatch and learn about the work the Friends of Petrie Island volunteers are doing to support the conservation of at-risk species.
The library will be hosting a series of turtle-themed storytimes where, along with stories, songs, and a craft, a member of Friends of Petrie Island will talk about the incubator and the turtle conservation project.
Check our staff blog regularly this summer as we share information about the kinds of turtles that will be hatching, including Painted Turtles, Northern Map Turtles, and Snapping Turtles.
Later in the summer, you’ll be able to see the baby turtles in the library before they’re released back to their natural habitat at one of the Petrie Island public releases.
